I had been lifting weights for two and half years before I contacted Matt. I decided that I wanted to get into powerlifting specifically and really needed some help with a good routine. Matt put me on a great 10 week program. Beforehand, my bench had been progressing extremely slowly and my deadlift had gone backwards after cutting weight. Despite being on a cut and achieving a weight loss of 3 kg from 80 kg to 77 kg over the 10 week program, my squat went from 167.5 kg * 3 to 190 kg, my deadlift went from 172.5 kg * 2-4 (depending on the week) to 200 kg and my bench press went from 80 kg * 3 to 92.5 kg. Matt helped me with my form and taught me how to incorporate front squats, pause squats, rack press, sumo deadlifts and stiff legged deadlifts into my routine. I'm now on my second 10 week program with him and excited to see what my results will be!
Matt is a fantastic powerlifting coach, the only Powerlifting Australia (drug tested) coach in Tasmania, and has very reasonable prices. He is a powerbuilder, so he knows exactly how to train people for not only powerlifting, but also bodybuilding or general strength. He works from a great gym with very friendly staff and top quality equipment. I highly recommend Matt to anyone, regardless of their experience, ability, or background. He is very friendly and excited to help people achieve their goals, whatever they may be.

I have been having 1/2hr sessions with Matthew twice a week for approximately 3 months. Primarily I came to Matthew for the challenge, but he is also helping me to stay injury free because of the work that I do, as well as increasing the muscle strength in my damaged knee. When you are trained by Matthew you will be pushed to your limits and beyond. You will most likely be sore and tired but the results are worth the effort.
When I first started with Matthew I could barely dead-lift 30kg, I am now dead-lifting 75kg, and doing rack pulls of 100kg. I am just an ordinary person, not an athlete or model, but the benefits from this type of training are many and varied. Ranging from bone/muscle strength, weight loss, and muscle building to name a few. I love the training I am doing with Matthew. Already well trained when be started with us he has just exploded with our programming. Being a father and business owner as well as all the training that comes with being a Professional MMA Fighter it is hard to imagine being able to dedicate to strength training as well... but here it is. 5th week in he's up 3.1kg of lean mass, down 1% body fat AND this WAS his max deadlift at the start of this block... Imagine what he's gonna bring to the cage in his next fight!! Whilst training under Matt, professional mixed martial-artist Shaw, gained 45kg’s on his Squat, 25 Bench, 45 Deadlift and gained 15 KG’s in weight on his road to a hopeful UFC debut. Previous PB's include a 3 x 200 kg deadlift... The Raw Strength crew are a incredibly professional & friendly crew. I originally visited RAW Strength Tasmania for the coaching expertise of Matt Mackay but also found a family like club of such supportive members and couldn’t wait to return.
